Intercessions - Form II

 I N T R O D U C T I O N

 The Celebrant begins:

Father, most gracious and merciful,
you are able to do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.
Hear us now as we lift to you our intercessions
for the needs of the Church, our world, and the people we love.

The Intercessor continues:

F O R   T H E   C H U R C H

Strengthen the faith of your people, foster within them a passionate love – not only of you, but for one another, and deepen the commitment of those whom you have called in a particular way to ministry throughout the world, [especially...]. May all who bear the name of your Son join in supporting one another on the pilgrimage of this transitory life.

F O R   T H E   W O R L D

Direct and prosper the deliberations and labors of […, and all] those to whom roles of authority and service have been entrusted in this and every land. Help them to serve those committed to their care with wisdom, honesty, and compassion, in a spirit of deep humility. Under their leadership, may we remain free to practice our faith, to do good the good works you command, and to support those initiatives rooted in peace, justice, equity, and compassion that serve the good of all.

F O R   T H E   N E E D S   O F   T H E   L I V I N G

Comfort those who are weary and weighed down by the burdens of this life,
especially those for whom we now pray.

The Intercessor may now read aloud the Diptychs for the Living,
or the assembly may quietly speak the names of those for whom they wish to pray.

Open our eyes to their needs,
and inspire within us deeds of care, compassion, and service
reflective of the heart of Christ.

.

F O R   T H E   D E P A R T E D

Reveal your everlasting goodness to our departed sisters and brothers,
and upon all the dead whose faith you alone can perceive.

The Intercessor may now read aloud the Diptychs for the Departed,
or the assembly may quietly speak the names of those for whom they wish to pray.

Lead them to your promised resurrection,
and gladden them with the sight of your face.

F O R   O U R   F E L L O W S H I P   W I T H   T H E   S A I N T S

When our own pilgrimage on Earth is complete,
welcome us into your heavenly Kingdom,
to dwell with you forever.
There, in fellowship with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
the apostles, the martyrs…

The Intercessor commemorates the patron of the congregation and the saint of the day.

…and all your saints,
we shall praise and glorify you for all eternity
.

The Celebrant concludes:

Father, you have promised to hear what we ask in the Name of your well-beloved Son. Accept and fulfill our petitions, we pray, not as we ask in our ignorance, nor as we deserve in our sinfulness, but as you know and love us in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
