Intercessions - Form I

  I N T R O D U C T I O N

 The Celebrant begins:

Father, most gracious and merciful,
you are able to do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.
Hear us now as we lift to you our intercessions
for the needs of the Church, our world, and the people we love.

The Intercessor continues:

F O R   T H E   C H U R C H

Conform the interior life and public labors of your Church ever more closely to the heart of Christ, and allow her to be a visible sign of your care for the world, of your desire to be present amid the joys and sorrows of the human race, and of your promise to make the whole of creation new. Give wisdom and strength to all who are charged with the Church’s ministry, [especially...] that that in faithful witness to the Gospel, they may ease the burdens of those who labor under the weight of their sins, bringing them the priceless gift of peace.

F O R   T H E   W O R L D

Allow the blessings of peace to flow forth at home and abroad and foster among all the virtues of forbearance and respect. Challenge those in positions of public trust [especially...]  to serve the cause of justice, to promote the dignity, freedom, and worth of every human being, and to make wise use of the riches of your creation that the world may be freed from the scourges of war, poverty, famine, and disease.

F O R   T H E   N E E D S   O F   T H E   L I V I N G

In your loving-kindness,
remember the needs, worries, fears, and sorrows
of those who are particularly dear to us...

The Intercessor may now read aloud the Diptychs for the Living,
or the assembly may quietly speak the names of those for whom they wish to pray.

F O R   T H E   D E P A R T E D

…and reveal the fullness of your faithful love
to all whom death has taken from this life.

The Intercessor may now read aloud the Diptychs for the Departed,
or the assembly may quietly speak the names of those for whom they wish to pray.

F O R   O U R   F E L L O W S H I P   W I T H   T H E   S A I N T S

Finally, unite us more deeply with the Blessed Virgin Mary,

The Intercessor commemorates the patron of the congregation and the saint of the day.

…and all your faithful ones,
and give to us, as you once gave to them, the hope of salvation
and the promise of eternal life.

The Celebrant concludes:

Father, accept the fervent prayers of your people, and in the multitude of your mercies, look with compassion upon us, and upon all who turn to you for help. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
