The Sanctus being concluded, the Celebrant continues:
With gratitude, Father, for your wondrous works, and in obedience to your Son’s command, we have prepared upon this earthly altar an offering of bread and wine that we might celebrate the perfect feast of your eternal love.
The Celebrant's hands are spread over the Gifts.
Therefore we ask you, in your goodness, to send your Holy Spirit upon our offerings. + Purify, hallow, and consecrate them, that they may become for us the Body and Blood of Jesus the Christ.
The Celebrant takes the bread.
On the night before he suffered, Jesus took bread into his sacred hands, and looking heavenward, to you, his almighty Father, he gave thanks and said the blessing. He then broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:
The Celebrant takes the cup.
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the cup into his sacred hands. Once again, he gave thanks and said the blessing. He then gave the cup to his disciples and said:
We, your holy people, remember his passage through suffering and death to the triumph of the Resurrection, drawing hope from his promise to be with always, us even to the end of the age.
The Celebrant briefly joins hands and bows, touching the edge of the Altar,
before standing upright and making the sign of the cross.
As we await the day of his return, look with favor upon your Church’s offering and, in the power + of your Spirit, count us forever as living members of your Son, whose Body and Blood we share.
The Celebrant briefly bows and strikes the breast.
Sinful though our nature be, strengthen us though this sacred meal. Confirm within us the forgiveness of our sins, and send us into the world in peace, granting us the strength and the courage to love and to serve you with gladness and singleness of heart. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Elevating the Consecrated Gifts, the Celebrant concludes with the Doxology:
Through him, with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours, Almighty Father, for ever and ever.
Amen.
