Eucharistic Prayer I

The Sanctus being concluded, the Celebrant continues:

We come to you Loving Father, filled with wonder and gratitude, for, in the beginning, you brought forth order from nothingness, called our world into existence, and transformed its dust into creatures privileged to give you praise. Even when we turned away from you, you did not turn away from us. At just the right time, you became especially close to us through the Incarnation of your Son, in him we see neither vengeance nor wrath, but the limitless compassion that invites us to draw near to you with fervent hope and perfect trust.

The Celebrant's hands are spread over the Gifts.

In this trust, we now ask you: Receive these simple gifts of wheat and grape which we offer to you with love and send forth your Holy Spirit upon them in power, + that the life-giving Body and Blood of your Jesus your Son may become present here in our midst.

The Celebrant takes the bread.

On the night before he suffered, Jesus took bread into his sacred hands, and looking heavenward, to you, his almighty Father, he gave thanks and said the blessing. He then broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

“TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

The Celebrant takes the cup.

In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the cup into his sacred hands. Once again, he gave thanks and said the blessing. He then gave the cup to his disciples and said:

“TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CUP OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT.
IT WILL BE SHED FOR YOU, AND FOR ALL, SO THAT SINS MAY BE FORGIVEN.
DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

The Celebrant briefly bows.

And so, Father, with this Bread and this Cup, we celebrate the memory of Christ, your Son.

Faithful to his command, we offer you our sacrifice, celebrating his Suffering and Death and acclaiming the victory of his Resurrection as we wait in anticipation for the Day of his Return.

The Celebrant briefly joins hands and bows, touching the edge of the Altar,
before standing upright and making the sign of the cross.

Send now, Father, your Holy Spirit, the Comforter and Helper, upon all who gather to celebrate this Eucharist. As we are nourished with your Son’s Body and Blood kindle in us + the fire of your love and give us the confidence to come closer to you, and to one another.

The Celebrant briefly bows and strikes the breast.

Now, united with one voice here at this Table, we acclaim your mercy and we worship your majesty through Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, our Lord, through whom you have revealed your compassion to the children you have formed from the dust of the earth.

Elevating the Consecrated Gifts, the Celebrant concludes with the Doxology:

Through him, with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours, Almighty Father, for ever and ever.
Amen.
