Common Seasonal Preface for the Gregorian Eucharistic Prayer

   The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, at all times and in all places, it is right to give you thanks and praise, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For he is your Eternal Word, through whom you have created all things from the beginning, and formed us in your own image.

Advent

In him the day of our deliverance has dawned. We rejoice that through him you make all things new and we look for his coming in power and majesty to judge the world.

In your great love, you gave him to take our nature upon himself and to share our common life.

Christmas

By the power of the Holy Spirit, he was born of the Virgin Mary, his mother, and we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son of the Father.

Epiphany and Transfiguration

You have revealed in him your eternal plan of salvation, showing him to be the light of all the nations. His glory has shone among us, glory as of the only Son of the Father.

Lent

He was tempted in every way as we are, yet he did not sin; and he gives us strength to control our desires, and to walk in his way of love.

In obedience to your will, he offered himself as a perfect sacrifice and died upon the cross for our redemption. Through him you have freed us from our slavery to sin, and reconciled us to yourself.

Passiontide    

For he is the true Passover Lamb who was offered for us, taking away the sin of the world.

Easter

For he is the true Passover Lamb who was offered for us, taking away the sin of the world. By his death he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life he has restored to us everlasting life.

Ascensiontide

For he is the true Passover Lamb who was offered for us, taking away the sin of the world. He has passed beyond our sight, not to abandon us but to be our hope, that where he is we might also be and reign with him in glory.

He is our Great High Priest whom you have exalted to your right hand on high, where he ever lives to intercede for us.

Through him you have sent upon us your holy and life-giving Spirit, making of us a royal priesthood called to serve you forever.

Pentecost

By the same Spirit we are led into all truth and given the power to boldly proclaim the glories of the Gospel to all the world.

Holy Trinity

You have revealed to us your glory and love in the glory and love of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, three persons, one God, ever to be worshipped and adored.

Saints' Days

You have called us into fellowship with ___ and all your saints, and set before us the example of their witness, and the fruit of your Spirit in their lives.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels, and with all your saints of every time and place, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your holy Name.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
